Breast Cancer Work Group
This mission of the Breast Cancer Work Group, also known as Arkansas Community Action Plan (Arkansas CAP) is to increase breast and cervical cancer funding from $3.3 M to $6 M by 2013. Female breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among Arkansas and U.S. women after skin cancer.
Through collaborative efforts of countless partners, the Arkansas CAP promotes the mission and vision of its numerous allies that include BreastCare, Arkansas Central Cancer Registry, Winthrop Rockefeller Cancer Institute, American Cancer Society, Arkansas Cancer Coalition, Community Health Centers of Arkansas, Arkansas Center for Health Advancement, Komen Race for the Cure – Arkansas Affiliates, and local Hometown Health Coalitions.
The goal of Arkansas CAP is to implement public health education strategies that support the need to increase funding for breast and cervical cancer screening and early detection in Arkansas. Funding by the MidSouth CEED will:
- Mobilize public and private breast and cervical cancer stakeholders
- Recruit, educate and train volunteers so that they can visit with or follow up with policy makers to increase their knowledge and fiscal needs of the Arkansas BreastCare Program
- Inform current and new policy makers about the Breast and Cervical program
