During the 2005 Arkansas General Assembly, Representative Wilhelmina Lewellen took a bold step towards women’s health by introducing the cervical cancer legislation. This bill became Act 1414 of 2005, now known as the Cervical Cancer Control Act of 2005.
Representative Lewellen's vision is now becoming a reality. The Cervical Cancer Task Force, mandated in the legislation, held its first meeting on October 20, 2005. This web page is another step towards Act 1414's desire to coordinate statewide efforts to combat cervical cancer.
Our launch of this web page is January during National Cervical Cancer Awareness Month. In years to come, you should hear and see more about cervical cancer and how it can be prevented.
No one should have to die from cervical cancer. Our goal is to make sure that no one in Arkansas will die from cervical cancer.
