Take a Walk in my Shoes

The first session of the day highlighted prostate cancer survivors and their journey from diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. Two overriding themes for this session included the need for making informed decisions and the necessity for patients to be their own advocates.

Health Care Access:
National and State Perspectives

The second session covered some of the challenges of screening, diagnosis, and treatment. The session also covered the difficulty of navigating the health care system. This is especially true for those with less education, lower socioeconomic levels, lack of transportation or a support system.

Navigating the System

This session focused on navigating patients through the health care system to ensure they receive the recommended treatment. Presenters also discussed ways to ensure the proper treatment and on going screenings.

Celebrating the Journey
A Reception Honoring
Tobacco Prevention Advocates in the Community
March 30, 2009
Holiday Inn Airport Conference Center

The evening before the Summit, the Arkansas Cancer Coalition recognized individuals and organizations across the state for their efforts in tobacco prevention and cessation. Over 100 were in attendance as, approximately 70 individuals representing 28 organizations were recognized for their efforts. Several Arkansas legislatures were in attendance, including the Public Health Chair Representative Greg Reep, Speaker of the House Senator Robby Wills, and House Majority Leader Steve Harrelson.
